Choose the shortlist first
The random part should happen only after the group agrees on what is actually available and acceptable. Your own watchlist is best when you already have a shortlist. The starter list is useful for inspiration, and genre, decade or runtime filters can narrow it before the final choice. The picker does not secretly rank films by popularity.
Example: a film under two hours
Start with the available watchlist, remove anything nobody wants to watch and apply a runtime filter if the evening is short. If five films remain, each gets the same chance. Use no-repeat mode when a rejected result should stay out for the rest of that session rather than appearing again on the next pick.
Check streaming availability yourself
Streaming catalogues change all the time and vary by country and subscription. If availability matters, check the service you use before you pick. The movie picker is there to choose from your shortlist, not to tell you what is currently streaming.
